After 17 1/2 years of devoted service to St Peter’s, on Sunday 29th July, a large congregation bade a fond farewell to our Rector, Revd Canon Fred Tomlinson, and his wife Revd Canon Dr Anne Tomlinson. During Fred’s tenure, much has been achieved including the redecoration of the church, the installation of a new heating system, and the refurbishment of the organ. Fred has also led us in worship and taught us through his preaching. The sick and housebound have benefitted from Fred’s home visits and his compassionate and wise counsel has accompanied many a person through the joys and sorrows of life.
At the end of the morning service, Fred and Anne were thanked and presented with a generous cheque, which showed the warm appreciation and gratitude of the congregations for all they have done over the years.
A beautiful cake, made and decorated by Jane Sutherland, and refreshments of wine and nibbles were shared after, which gave everybody an opportunity to speak to Fred and Anne before they left.
They will both be fondly remembered and missed by many!
Fred is having a two-month sabbatical before he retires at the end of September, and the congregation wish him well on his next venture.
