Ed Bethune will be giving an illustrated talk to the Monday Group about the little known Tranent Cockenzie Waggonway. It opened in 1722, and is possibly the first Waggonway in Scotland. Originally a wooden track drawn by horses, it connected the coal pits at Tranent with the salt pans at Cockenzie and the harbour at Port Seaton. This promises to be an interesting talk about the little-known history of an important early industrial site not far from us here in Edinburgh.

Refreshments will follow the talk.

Do consider joining the Monday Group!  Members of St Peter’s of all ages and their friends are most welcome to join the group. We are a friendly bunch and have an interesting variety of speakers and events. Talks are always open to non-members. Further information from Liz Philp.

Cost £1 per meeting.
